On Saturday, January 8, the 4th edition of the World Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh started. This six-day event has the mission to bring together youth from around the world and the decision-makers and different influential officials. The forum is a chance for you to engage with top policy-makers in the region and network with promising youth in the region and the world determined to create change in the world we live in today.

We at Hawa Dawa are proud that our CEO and co-founder, Karim Tarraf, has been invited to join „The Road from “Glasgow” to “Sharm El-Sheikh”: Combating Climate Change Panel Discussion“.

The urgency of this topic got underlined by the prominent line-up of panellists, which included among others Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, H.E. Mr. John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Murton, UK Special Envoy for Climate, Yolande Wright, Global Director Child Poverty, Climate and Urban at Save the Children, as well as Cassie Flynn, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.

Karim’s statement that the climate goals only can be achieved if the emissions of pollutants are known got well received. He pointed out that technology evolves at a fast pace and that agile companies and startups are ideally positioned to leverage the new technical opportunities and develop effective solutions at a large scale.

The session was complemented by a speech of Egypt’s president El-Sisi, who stressed that human beings can destroy but also build and repair and that it is essential that governments and the private sector join forces to mitigate climate change.
